5 Helpful Tips on Staying Productive
Life can get busy. We've all been there, right? We are easily distracted by Social Media, phone calls, meetings, kids, and everything in between, that most of the time we're stuck doing "busy work" instead of being productive. It's Toxic Tuesday, and today we're diving into 5 Tips on Staying Productive.
1. Make Lists
This is a big one for me. If something is written down, I'm less likely to drop the ball on an important project, and to be honest, I love the feeling of marking a to-do list 'done'. Maybe for you, getting a planner is a better way to go because it'll give you the time to plan your days out accordingly.
2. Set a Deadline (and have someone keep you accountable)
Setting a deadline is a good thing! I know a lot of people don't like the idea of having a set time to accomplish a project, but trust me, setting a *realistic* deadline will ensure that you get the job done efficiently.
3. Have a Designated Work Space
If you work from home, then having space where you can focus on getting the job done, is really important. When you go to a normal 9-5, an office is provided for you, but when your home becomes that space, it's even more crucial to separate the two.
4. The Pomodoro Technique
This is a great way to manage your productivity because you're working in increments rather than one continuous stretch. Basically, you're going to map out what can get done in a 25-minute span. Once that's done, you're going to take a 3-4 minute break. Every fourth "Pomodoro" you're going to take a longer 15-20 minute break and then start the cycle all over again. Doing this will dramatically increase your productivity -- try it out and let us know what you think!
5. Turn on Some Instrumental Music.
Music has been a proven study technique for decades. Make sure it's instrumental though, music with lyrics can be distracting. My personal favorite is classical (Bach, Brahms, and Chopin) but if that's not your speed, there are dozens of instrumental playlists on Spotify and I believe there's even a designated "study" playlist under the mood tab.
