With Christmas being around the corner 22 days to be exact Lets talk about spending. How much is too much? Is your budget ready for the HIT? Are all your bills secured before you start spending? There’s a saying that says Never spend your money before you have earned it! (credits toThomas Jefferson). I very much agree with this quote because it talks about not spending your money before you have it because it can put you in severe debt.

Was Black Friday and Cyber Monday Really A Deal?

An average person spends $1,000 + for the holiday season. Are Black Friday and Cyber Monday really a deal? Do really save money? Most people are still paying debt from last year’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday. For example if a shirt is normally $30.00 the store raises the price to let’s say $70.00 with a 70% discount you end up paying $21.00 for that shirt a savings of $9.00 from the original price. Yes don’t get me wrong there are some store deals that are deals, but don’t let their advertisement fool you. What I’m trying to say the store doesn't loose anything they either make profit or stay even. But do you save?

Do you need it or do you Want it?

Growing up I wasn’t as fortunate as far as having everything I wanted as a kid/teenager. I actually had to work when I say work, I physically worked at an early age to get what I needed not what I wanted. Personally I am not a spender, before I shop I always make a list of what I need not what I want, but what I need. If I come across that item that I really want I ask myself do I want it or do I need it? There have been times very rare that I drop it in the cart if I want it? It’s not that I’m a tightwad or a cheapskate, I just ask myself do I need it or want it? Will I really use it or not. It has helped my budget when I do that. I’m not going to lie I did buy the WANT item many times and guess what it’s still in my closet with the tags with no receipt and it’s been months since I bought it. So next time ask yourself do I NEED it or do I WANT it? It might help you in the long run.

Is Brand Name really Important?

When it comes to name brand apparel, shoes, purses you name it? Are brand name items really important? You are obviously paying for the brand name, not the shirt itself but the popular luxury brand. Brand names are the same items just known as luxurious . When you buy brand names you are making the person’s investment only bigger because you could get the same item some where else cheaper without the trade name. People wear them to impress others or to make themselves feel more valuable or important . I don’t own all brand name items, but I do own some. When I buy a brand name sweater, shoes or shirt its because I like the look, how the material feels, I don’t base it on what people will think or say about me wearing it, it’s for my own comfort- - my look. I make it a point not to spend money on things I don’t need to just impress others. I’d rather spend or support a small business than to make a rich person richer. I don’t have anything against name brands because they we’re once a small business too. If you could afford it go for it but don’t place your identity in a materialistic item if you simply cant afford it . Again I’m not saying I don’t own brand name because I would be lying if I said I don’t, but my point is don’t spend money you don’t have on brands when it will lead you to unnecessary debt. If you have it buy it , if you don’t leave it and save up for it. Don’t hurt your budget to impress is what it boils down to. I always say you can wear a $20 sweater and make it look like a million dollars , or wear a million dollar sweater and make it look like a $20 sweater.

With that being said This week’s #ToxicTuedsayChallenge is to be cautious on how you spend and not let advertisements fool you . Over spending can be Toxic. If you don’t yet have a budget and goals set aside I suggest that you start one. Ask yourself do you want it or do you need it? Check your finances before you go out and spend.
